Transcription Requirements

You will be required to meet certain criteria in order to access our system over the Internet. The chart below contains the PC operating systems that MED-TECH supports. Based on the operating system that you have installed on your computer, you can consult the chart below to view the types of foot pedals that are supported. This information is found in the columns marked Port Type and Port Supported.

Connectivity

You will be required to establish a secure VPN connection to our system. Your PC operating system must have all of the relevant components installed and configured before we can install the typing software used at MED-TECH. Our technical department can help you get this completed once an offer of employment is made to you.

It is required that you subscribe to, and establish a high-speed Internet connection with a service of your choice. If this is done before working on the MED-TECH (or any) transcription system, not only will you be much happier with the speed and response between your PC and our typing system but we have found that this will more than pay for itself in increased productivity.

A high-speed connection to the Internet is a requirement of employment with MED-TECH Resource.

It is strongly suggested that the MT have a "dedicated" PC system for working from home. It has proven very costly to both the employee and to MED-TECH when trying to share equipment with other family members. Certain software and downloads can make the MED-TECH system inoperable, would need remote technical assistance from our staff and require repeat installs of the typing software. Naturally, while this is going on you are unable to work or make any money. (Keep the kids off your PC!)

MED-TECH cannot be responsible for downloads and installations of programs that negatively impact your abiltiy to work on the MED-TECH system. Please check with our technical department for recommendations on this issue.

Security (Please read)

We will not install the typing software from our system if you currently have AOL or any AOL components installed on your PC system.

At no time may you have any file sharing software installed on your work PC. This includes Limewire, Kazaa, Gnutella, and any others. This is a serious security issue and must be enforced.

Software, Hardware & Communication requirements

  • A foot pedal can be purchased through MED-TECH.
  • *You are required to have Microsoft Word (full version) installed on your computer.
  • You will be responsible for supplying a medical spellchecker such as Stedman's or Dorland's
  • MED-TECH recommends that you use a macro expansion utility such as PRD or Shorthand to increase your productivity.
  • A high-speed, broadband connection to the Internet (DSL or cable)

    *Please note that Microsoft Works cannot be substituted for Microsoft Word. It is required that you have a stand-alone full version of Word or Microsoft Office that includes Word rather than the version of Word that is bundled with MS Works. Microsoft Works is not compatible with our typing software and has been known to cause serious technical issues such as nonfunctional drop down menus.
